Abstract:
The collective monograph synthesizes research on the current state and developmental trends of the vocabulary of contemporary Ukrainian literary language in connection with the elaboration of the theoretical foundations for compiling author’s dictionaries. The study presents linguistic portraits of creative personalities, each of whom reveals specific linguistic preferences and tastes and demonstrates its own language priorities.
The monograph consists of three sections: “Theory and Practice of Contemporary Lexicographic Description of the Linguistic World of Creative Personalities of Ukraine,” “The Source Base of Modern Lexicography. Criteria for Selecting the Language of a Creative Personality,” and “Innovations in Lexicographic Modeling of Contemporary Language-Creative Processes”. Across 14 subsections, attention is focused on the following issues: interpretation, conceptualization, and substantiation of the phenomenon of the “language of a creative personality,” author’s language, idiolect, and linguistic worldview. The work analyzes the creative linguistic palette of writers and publicists Yurii Andrukhovych, Oles Honchar, Ivan Dziuba, Oksana Zabuzhko, Yevhen Sverstiuk, and Hryhir Tiutiunnyk, as well as the translator and scholar Mykola Lukash.
The state of author’s lexicography in Ukraine and in contemporary world lexicography has been clarified. The typology of existing author’s dictionaries and types of registers has been traced.
The criteria for selecting the register of the published integral lexicographic work “Dictionary of the Language of Creative Personalities of Ukraine of the Second Half of the 20th – Early 21st Century” have been studied. It reflects the language creativity of the mentioned literary figures. The collective monograph presents the format of dictionary entries, the presentation of historical and linguocultural information, the illustration of lexical material, remarks, types of definitions, and headwords.
The findings of the monograph provide a theoretical foundation for the study of new phenomena and trends in the development of Ukrainian vocabulary and phraseology. They may also be used in higher and general education in Ukraine.
